Put in how many fans you have and how much of their listening is yours. See what that earns in pounds, and how many Spotify plays it would take to match it.

What your fans are paying

Day Ones lock a lower price forever, so a Day One fan sends less your way than a standard subscriber does. Standard is the steady state, which is why it’s the default here.

Attention share is your slice of each fan’s total listening. 40% means you are close to half of everything that person plays. It happens. It is not the average. Attention share is an assumption, not an observed rate. RAAYDR is pre-launch, so there is no measured average yet.

£48/month

Assumes 16 plays of your music per fan a month, 4 times the 4 plays a real Spotify monthly listener averages in our own Spotify for Artists data. The 4 is measured. The step up to a committed fan is our assumption.

Side income

The same 1,000 people, either way. To earn the RAAYDR figure through Spotify instead you would need roughly 237,000 plays a month.

Your share is 55% of every subscription, after tax, publishing royalties and card fees, divided by how much of each fan’s listening you hold. The Spotify column is that same fan’s plays of your music at roughly £0.003 a stream, a rate taken from a real distributor dashboard. Both sides of that are grounded: the rate is observed, and so is the anchor under the play count. Spotify for Artists data puts an average monthly listener at about 4 plays a month, and the 16 plays this column prices is 4 times that, on the assumption that a fan who genuinely rates you plays you more than a passing listener does. That step is the one modelled input on this side. Attention share deliberately does not touch the Spotify figure: the play count already is your share of that fan, counted rather than expressed as a percentage. Figures are projections based on your inputs, not a guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. Every figure is in pounds sterling, based on a UK subscription price.

  • It takes a number of fans and the share of their listening that goes to you, then shows what that earns on RAAYDR and how many Spotify plays it would take to earn the same.

  • No. Attention share is an assumption, not an observed rate. RAAYDR is pre-launch, so there is no measured average yet. Treat the result as a way to compare two ways of being paid, not as a forecast.

  • Platforms do not publish an official rate. Our guide sets out the commonly quoted estimates for Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music, with a worked table.
